Brookwood Cemetery Walk

Brookwood Cemetery Walk

This month, we have a special event - a guided walk at Brookwood Cemetery, followed by a pub lunch at the White Hart in Pirbright.

This fascinating and famous cemetery, the largest in Britain and one of the largest in Europe, is a must see. The experienced guide, Kim, will tell us about its origins and show us some of the most interesting graves.

Charles Bradlaugh, who founded the National Secular Society and was Britain's first atheist MP, and was the subject of the talk by Deborah Lavin at our meeting last November, is buried in Brookwood Cemetery.

Please note: There is a charge of £5 per person for the tour, all proceeds go to the upkeep of the cemetery. If you'd like to join us for the pub lunch, please do let us know if you can so that we can book a table for the right number of people! You can email us at guildfordwoking@humanistgroups.org.uk, or join our events on Facebook or Meetup.

Guildford & Woking Humanists

Do you think about what is right and wrong, based on reason and respect for others?

Do you find beauty, and joy in the one life we have, without the need for an afterlife?

Do you look to science instead of religion as the best way to discover and understand the world?

Do you believe people can use empathy and compassion to make the world a better place for everyone?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then why not come along to one of our events and meet a friendly group of humanists, atheists, agnostics, skeptics and free-thinkers. We hold monthly speaker events and/or discussions at the Guildford Institute (in the Assembly Room on the first floor unless otherwise stated) and regular social events - all are welcome! There's no entry charge or membership fee, but we do collect donations to cover the room hire and speaker expenses - a donation of £3 is suggested unless you're a student in which case it's free.
