Monthly Meeting - Should Humanists Eat Meat?

Monthly Meeting - Should Humanists Eat Meat?

This month, we welcome Phil Walder, who'll be speaking to us on the topic of "Should Humanists Eat Meat?" Vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike are welcome for friendly discussion and debate!

As a Humanist, Phil believes in the 'Human Project' and is fascinated by the incredible ingenuity of our species. However, he doesn't believe that the future success of the human race should be at the expense of the other species that share this planet, and the health of our environment. He argues that, apart from the moral questions about killing and eating animals, the best thing that each of us can do for the planet, is to become vegetarian.

Phil has been a member of Humanists UK for 16 years and has been a vegetarian for 30 years. He started his first business when he was 25 and has been avoiding real work ever since. He originally took a BSc in Environmental Science, but has also studied philosophy and politics.

Guildford & Woking Humanists

Do you think about what is right and wrong, based on reason and respect for others?

Do you find beauty, and joy in the one life we have, without the need for an afterlife?

Do you look to science instead of religion as the best way to discover and understand the world?

Do you believe people can use empathy and compassion to make the world a better place for everyone?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then why not come along to one of our events and meet a friendly group of humanists, atheists, agnostics, skeptics and free-thinkers. We hold monthly speaker events and/or discussions at the Guildford Institute (in the Assembly Room on the first floor unless otherwise stated) and regular social events - all are welcome! There's no entry charge or membership fee, but we do collect donations to cover the room hire and speaker expenses - a donation of £3 is suggested unless you're a student in which case it's free.
