The Da Vinci Codex: hacking Leonardo's smartphone

The Da Vinci Codex: hacking Leonardo's smartphone

This month, we welcome Dr. Chris Bore who'll be speaking on "The Da Vinci Codex: hacking Leonardo's smartphone".

Guarding a valuable Leonardo da Vinci Codex at Woking’s then new Lightbox gallery provided an insight that led Dr. Chris Bore to understand something important – and often neglected – about human knowledge.

In this talk Chris, himself a physicist, recalls a personal journey of discovery, that happened by accident, and that led from the hi-tech world of smartphones and digital cameras and video, through Renaissance art, through the science of visual illusion, and back through engineering to a Renaissance filofax, to rediscover why school physics matters, that we didn’t always know everything, and how what may seem dull, is in fact amazing.

Guildford & Woking Humanists

Do you think about what is right and wrong, based on reason and respect for others?

Do you find beauty, and joy in the one life we have, without the need for an afterlife?

Do you look to science instead of religion as the best way to discover and understand the world?

Do you believe people can use empathy and compassion to make the world a better place for everyone?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then why not come along to one of our events and meet a friendly group of humanists, atheists, agnostics, skeptics and free-thinkers. We hold monthly speaker events and/or discussions at the Guildford Institute (in the Assembly Room on the first floor unless otherwise stated) and regular social events - all are welcome! There's no entry charge or membership fee, but we do collect donations to cover the room hire and speaker expenses - a donation of £3 is suggested unless you're a student in which case it's free.
